Morgan Arnold 09/03/10 (Outside Readings/Observation Blog) Phenomenology

My Communication Theory class and this Primal Religions class seems to be hitting on a let of the same concepts- One of which is phenomenology. This concept is one of the seven distinct traditions within the communication studies. We observe theories, research and concepts using this point of view. Craig and Muller (1999) describe phenomenology as all about experiencing the other; the listener tries to convey and interpret the message of the speaker. They go on to explain how it include heurmenutics (theory and practice of interpretation, dissecting the truth, within texts; ex: scholars first studied the Bible), people experience things differently because they have different life experiences (critical when talking about gender power and how it should change because critical is trying to change or reform). This goes hand in hand with studying Primal Religions and we should definitely try to have this same vantage point.
