Bruchko – 11-17-07
What is it in people that make them think that they have it all together, and that they know better than everyone else. It is interesting that this idea that we’ve got it all together is encouraged most in religion. Religions seem to put out this persona that they have everything right, and everyone else is wrong. Not to mention that anyone in that specific religion (pick your choice) has everything together, and knows what is best. Let me venture further to say that Christians among a few other religions seem to think that they must make sure everyone else knows that they have it right. Occationally this comes out by “Christianizing” people. Or sharing the gospel.
Why do you think this is. Because people honestly believe they have it all together, and they have everything right? Well, I would like to say that if that is the case, then we’re all wrong. But, people share the gospel because they know they don’t have it all together, but they have hope… then we’re getting somewhere. I mean, look at the human race. Where in history does it look like anyone has it all together. Every man and woman has had their serious downfalls, no matter what religion. Look at Abraham Lincoln under his command the civil war started, he didn’t do everything right in that situation. But, yet we remain thinking we are better some how.
We can never claim such a thing, it is inevitable that we fail someway. But, there is hope that there is something good. There is something real that we can know, even if we may mess it up. We have a hope, and it is this hope that we want to share with others, not our belief in our own perfect nature. Bruchko had a hard time with this. Even though he knew he was not perfect, when the tribe accepted Christ he thought that his way was right and their’s was wrong. So, again we see this idea that we can be always right. But, what I love about this book is that Bruchko begins to see that just because it is not his way that means it is wrong. This is a wonderful realization in the book, and I think every human could use to learn a lesson like this, even me.
