THE BASIC OF BUDDHISM
HOMEWORK # 13

1.- What does the word “Buddha” mean?
From Pali, “Buddha” means: awakening, knowledge, and Enlightenment that delivers your mind from deferment – enlighten-clear, clear, calm your mind. For example the lotuses grow in the mud but the flower is pretty and smells good. You have to clear yourself like the lotus.
2.- What is the fundamental doctrine of Buddhism?
Do not do evil whether mental, verbal, and physical. Purity of the mind and extinction of suffering. Do every things good.
3.- Do Buddhists believe in the existence of the soul?
Permanent soul? Buddha answers: “No”. Things move and change all the time. For example: “Stream of continuance”. The year has four seasons. Rebirth will occur when the mind is pure, like building “a new house”.
