My Grandma is my hero. Her and my grandfather left the church that they had planted and called home for over 30 years, and became missionaries at the age of 60. After my grandfather died 6 years ago, my grandmother decided to keep the ministry (Equipping Pastors Internationally) going. To this day, she still travels the world ministering to pastors and their wives in 3rd world countries. I received a monthly newsletter from her today. She just got home from Uganda, where she was spending time in a tiny village that she had never been before. She explained how the people were very welcoming and so anxious to learn from her. The majority of these Africans had never received schooling, but she was amazed (as she always is) at how intelligent they are. She noted how special it is that they WANT to learn and are so ready to soak in every bit of knowledge they can. They sit for hours without a peep, stretch or bathroom break. In my own experiences, in Kenya, I observed this as well. We, Americans, would benefit so much if we just had an ounce of this perspective. We are so blessed to have the opportunity to go to school and have access to technology… litereally we have the world at the touch of our fingertips. Yet, so often we take it so much for granted. I enjoy getting my grandmother’s newsletters, because it gives me a dose of reality and reminds me how truly blessed we are. Yet, how amazing ALL of God’s creation is.
