Morgan Arnold 11/20/10 (Outside Readings/Observation Blogs) Revolution

My Leading Change class recently read an article titled, “Why The Revolution Will Not Be Tweeted.” It is a very interesting article discussing how our society is changing so much due to online social sites, such as Twitter. Even our leadership needs are changing, because of the popular usage of technology. The author, Gladwell, explains how entire movements took place without so much as a text message. Gladwell focuses a lot on the Civil Rights movement. However, even that is nothing compared to what oral cultures experienced. They accomplished so much without even writing down their history. It is amazing how their rituals, traditions, myths and more were passed down just through words of mouth or even art. I think our society has really lost a sense of appreciation. We are all so jaded to technology that we are losing that face-to-face contact, which is crucial in developing strong, healthy relationships of any kinds. We need to make sure that we do not get lost in this, because like Gladwell says, no revolution will take place through a tweet.
