A few classes ago, we were able to participate in a drum circle. This was such a crazy awesome experience. I had no idea what to expect and was a bit apprehensive at first, but I truly loved the experience. It represented so many things to me and showed us a glimpse of what many tribes and oral cultures participate in. I loved the ritual aspect of the drum circle: the shoes and socks off so we can be one with the earth, the walking in and out of the circle to unite us, and the flow of music. At times, we were very off. To any listener, it probably sounded like organized chaos. However, there were moments where we all just got it. Both of which were beautiful. To me, even in midst of the organized chaos, it was obvious that everyone was really feeling their own groove and then all the sudden we would hit this note of unity and it sounded beautiful. Doesn’t that just sound like life? Great stuff.
